Pharmacists role in mental health care: We talk to BBC Radio Scotland

RPS Director of Scotland Clare Morrison has been interviewed by BBC Radio Scotland, highlighting how pharmacists can support people with mental health conditions.

In the interview, Clare talks about the vital role that pharmacy teams play in mental health care, not only to help people get the most from their medicines, but also around looking after their general health and wellbeing. Whether it is spotting early signs of mental health conditions, managing long-term conditions, providing expert medicines advice or signposting to other forms of support, pharmacists working across the health service are ideally placed to ensure people get the help they need.

Clare also talked about the recently published RPS Scotland policy on improving pharmaceutical care for people living with mental health conditions, which recognises that there are many great examples of services already being provided by pharmacy teams. We believe that increased support and resources could enable more pharmacy teams to help further improve the care of people with mental health conditions.

She explained her involvement with NHS ‘Near Me’, an online consultation service which has already enabled 500,000 consultations during the pandemic and how this is helping people with mental health conditions to access care and advice.
