RPS talks to Radio 5 Live about horsefly bites

The warm weather has led to an increase in bites by horseflies in Scotland as people spend more time outside with their skin exposed.

Horsefly bites are painful and can, in some cases, become infected and need attention.

RPS Scotland spokesperson Aileen Bryson told BBC Radio 5 Live that in most cases pharmacists can offer advice on treatments, and should be the first place people who are bitten go to for advice.

She also advised that insect repellents and covering up can help people to avoid being bitten.
