Gail Fleming joins the RPS as new Director of Education

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Gail Fleming FRPharmS as its new Director of Education.

Education is a key part of the Society’s strategy. As such, Gail will be accountable for the provision of the leadership and strategic direction of this key priority. Gail will lead the team in the design and delivery of the educational strategy and all the educational programmes of the Society.

In her new role, Gail will play an instrumental part in further developing the capability within the Society to take our educational offer to a new level that builds upon the success of our existing programmes. She will lead on the important work we are doing on our pre-Foundation, Foundation Level and Advanced Level frameworks. Gail will report directly to the Chief Executive, Paul Bennett, and joins the Society’s Executive team in September.

Gail is a Fellow of the Society and is currently the Health Education England Pharmacy Dean for London and South East; Gail manages the regional HEE Pharmacy team where she has been responsible for professional advice and support relating to pharmacy workforce planning, development and transformation across London and the South East. Gail is also the national lead for the development and implementation of the National Pre-registration Pharmacist Recruitment Scheme for England and Wales. She is currently the Clinical Lead for Independent Prescribing as part of the NHS Pharmacy Integration Fund.

Professor Peter Kopelman, Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Chair of the RPS Faculty & Education Board said:

“I am delighted by Gail’s appointment as Director of Education. This is an important new position within the RPS that signifies the importance the Society places on supporting the career ambitions of pharmacists, and the pathways to achieve these.  Gail brings to the role considerable experience of practice in the community, hospital, and primary care, and knowledge of the opportunities for Faculty members and fellows by their engagement in training, and closer working with other health professionals.”

Gail joins the RPS in September.
