RPS in Scotland seeks member representative on the SIGN Council

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) to represent RPS on the SIGN Council. Gary Cook Lead has held the voluntary post for two years and has recently stepped down.

Members of SIGN Council determine the overall direction of SIGN’s development and play a key role in shaping the SIGN guideline programme. More information can be found on the SIGN Council website. The key attributes associated with being a SIGN Council member are; being a recognised clinical leader, with an ability to understand the detailed methodology of SIGN and being a motivated individual who can work on their own initiative and effectively communicate. The specific responsibilities include;

  • To attend all 3 meetings of SIGN Council per year or to arrange for a deputy to attend.
  • To represent the views of the pharmacy profession on behalf of the RPS and report information on the activities of SIGN to the RPS for onward dissemination.
  • To coordinate with the Practice Development Lead, RPS and the Director of Pharmacy Professional Secretariat nominations for pharmacists to guideline development groups.
  • To be a member of the virtual editorial review group for all published SIGN guidelines.
  • To participate in promotional activities following publication of guidelines.
  • To act as an ambassador for SIGN and Healthcare Improvement Scotland.

This role and the associated activities will further enhance your practice and leadership skills and provides an exceptional opportunity to work with other health care professionals at a national level. Membership or commitment to the RPS Faculty is desirable.

The representative would be supported in their role by RPS staff and a depute, Alan Timmins, who is the RPS representative on the SIGN Guideline Professional Advisory Group. The Chief Pharmacist at Healthcare Improvement Scotland, also offers professional support to this role. Please note that all travelling expenses will be reimbursed.

Please send your CV and a supporting statement from your employer or line manager by Friday 31 July 2018 to [email protected].

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 21 August at the RPS office in Edinburgh. If you would like to discuss this opportunity in more detail, please contact Annamarie, Practice Development Lead, on 0131 524 2007 or email [email protected].
