RPS England Board Meeting - June update

RPS England Board Chair Claire Anderson comments on the highlights of the June meeting.

“During my first meeting as chair, I was delighted with the energy and enthusiasm of the Board, including our new members, as we considered the challenges and opportunities of the changing NHS landscape and how RPS can help support its members.

“It’s critical that pharmacists are involved in the NHS systems which are forming to deliver the NHS Long-Term Plan. We’ve had some great feedback on our new online toolkit, A Systems Approach to Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy. This supports aspiring pharmacy leaders to collaborate with colleagues across the health service to integrate medicines optimisation and improve patient care.

“The Board discussed the recently-published interim NHS ‘People Plan’ which acknowledges the need to support staff to improve retention. We know how hard pharmacists are working for patients every day and it’s vital they get the help they need. The RPS will continue speaking to government, the NHS and working with others across the profession so that pharmacists receive support for their health and wellbeing wherever they may be.

“The fantastic work of the RPS Ambassadors goes from strength to strength, supporting members across the country. As we look to build our approach to member engagement, we committed to further developing this programme and hope to recruit more RPS Ambassadors in the coming year.

“The Board also welcomed the ongoing work of the RPS in helping more pharmacists become Qualified Persons. This is a vital role to support the UK’s continued position as a leader in clinical trials and medicines safety.”
