Valuing difference: Our Inclusion and Diversity programme

Our Pharmacy Inclusion and Diversity programme has launched today with the appointment of multi-award winning expert Asif Sadiq MBE as Chair.  He will head up work across the profession leading to publication of an RPS strategy for pharmacy on Inclusion and Diversity next year, based on the views of members and the wider sector.

President Sandra Gidley said: “As the professional body, we want to recognise, celebrate and encourage all voices and experiences across pharmacy so we can better represent our membership and pharmacists everywhere. Championing the profession through the lens of inclusion and diversity is central to this ambition.

“Asif’s appointment is a significant milestone for the programme and I’m delighted to have him leading and informing the development of our inclusion and diversity strategy.”

Asif has over 15 years’ experience in the field. He was formerly the Head of Diversity and Inclusiveness for EY Financial Services and previously the Head of the Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Unit for the City of London Police. He is currently Head of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging for The Telegraph.

Asif Sadiq said: “I am honoured to be part of this journey that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society are embarking on. I look forward to supporting such an important piece of work that will further embed the great work of the RPS in supporting all its members through creating a sense of belonging for all.”

Director of Pharmacy and Member Experience and Executive sponsor of the programme Robbie Turner said: “One of the most important parts of this work is ensuring our members and the wider profession have plenty of opportunities to contribute to make sure that our strategy is truly co-created.

“We are launching a profession-wide survey on inclusion and diversity in the next few weeks. I’d urge everyone to use this opportunity to contribute and help us to make a real difference in this incredibly important area.”

Our ongoing commitment to inclusion and diversity includes celebrating and creating key events. For the first time this year RPS had an official presence at Pride in London with 34 members and employees walking in the parade. Upcoming events will support Women in Leadership and Black History Month in October and will be open to all.

Members will also be able to contribute at a session on inclusion and diversity at our National Conference on 17 November.
