RPS calls for reclassification of cannabis for medicinal use

RPS writes to the Home Secretary

The RPS has published a policy statement recommending that cannabis be rescheduled from Schedule 1 to Schedule 2 in the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001.

RPS President Ash Soni has formally written to the Home Secretary, Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, recommending this change.

Ash Soni said: “There is emerging evidence that cannabis may be of benefit to people living with a number of serious conditions, and many countries have already changed the law to facilitate research.

“The RPS would support moving cannabis to Schedule 2, which would give pharmaceutical scientists greater freedom to research its potential medicinal uses and to carry out clinical trials.

“I have written to the Home Secretary setting out our position.”
