RPS England welcomes criteria change to practice pharmacist programme

Commenting on the change in the application criteria to make it easier for GP practices to apply for co-funding for a practice pharmacist, RPS Board Chair Sandra Gidley said:

“Wherever they practice, we want pharmacists to become key players in the primary care multidisciplinary team.

"Changing the ratio of pharmacists per head of population means smaller GP practices will now be included in the scheme, so more patients will benefit from the care of a pharmacist.  Changing the working hours required from 0.8 whole time equivalent to 0.5 will allow pharmacists greater flexibility and encourage more portfolio working.

"The opportunities for pharmacists are really opening up and as the professional body we want to see all pharmacists have the opportunity to develop their career and win new roles.”
